A teenage youth was found dead just days following being falsely blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's parents found his body in his room at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Start

The investigation learned how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the items was not taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes generated online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that Kai had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The hearing received testimony from school staff at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's family telephone and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they did not receive that communication.

Formal Finding

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was released while investigations proceeded."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to discern his purpose."
